• Elliston's Raincoat Factory opens in the building that was formerly Hardcastle's Mill in Victoria Street. Mary Hewitt is the only Coronation Street resident taken on at the factory, rescuing the Hewitts from starvation.
• Out-of-work Thomas Hewitt takes a job for Freddie Malone but when alarm is raised while breaking into Elliston's factory the gang members flee, and Thomas is arrested for breaking and entering.
• 25th February - Rita Littlewood is born.
