• 13th March - Ken Barlow is sent to prison for seven days after refusing to pay a £5 fine for taking part in an anti-Vietnam demonstration which had to be stopped by police.
• 10th May - A goods train derails from the top of the viaduct on Viaduct Street, crashing into Coronation Street. Sonia Peters is killed in the crash.
• 20th June - Angie Freeman is born.
• 14th July - Sally Seddon is born.
• 3rd August - Andrea Clayton is born.
• 6th September - Elsie Tanner marries Steve Tanner. Harry Hewitt is crushed to death when the jack slips while fixing a broken down van.
• 27th November - Irma Barlow has a miscarriage.
• 27th December - Elsie Tanner moves to the USA to be with her husband Steve.
