• 1974 - Bet Lynch's holiday prize of the Bahamas for two people in a "Spot the Ball" competition is swapped for Majorca for eight people in order that all the women can go together.
• 1985 - Ivy Tilsley finds out that fiancé George Wardle is a divorcee and marrying him would go against her religious beliefs.
• 1987 - Jenny Bradley announces that she is going to marry Patrice Podevin, a man she met when she ran away to France.
• 1996 - At a party to celebrate his seventieth bithday Alf Roberts is horrified to discover that his present from Audrey is a stay at a health farm.
• 2000 - Finlay Bryant born.
• 2001 - Dev Alahan and Geena Gregory become engaged.
• 2002 - Richard Hillman threatens his ex-sister-in-law, Charlotte Morris, when she starts to pry too closely into Patricia Hillman's disappearance.

• 1926 - Writer Jim Allen born.
• 1983 - In a move that is soon roundly criticised, the Daily Mirror reveals Doris Speed's real age is 84 and not 69 as she had claimed. The revelation adds to Ms Speed's health problems and her retirement from the programme.
