Accrington is where Amos, Joan, Jack, Jim, and Arthur Walker lived in the early 1900s. Jack, Jim, and Arthur eventually moved away, all eventually becoming publicans. Joan Walker, who her granddaughter was named after, also moved out of the area, living as a widow in Barnsley until her death in the spring of 1962.

In 1985, the Clayton family moved out of 11 Coronation Street to Accrington to get away from the Duckworths after son Terry got Andrea Clayton pregnant.
