Alan Browning (23rd March 1926 - 7th September 1979) was a British actor whose best known role was that of Geordie Alan Howard on Coronation Street from 1969 to 1974 with a return appearance via a voice-over in 1977. He was married to Patricia Phoenix, who played his Street wife Elsie Howard from 1972 until his death in 1979 from liver failure following years of alcohol abuse.
Alan's other credits include The Saint, The Avengers and Return of the Saint. Prior to Coronation Street he was best known to television viewers for playing the lead role of Ellis Cooper in the 1960s BBC soap The Newcomers.
