Alex Johnston appeared in Coronation Street in July 1980 as prospective Corner Shop buyer George Bannister.

Born in Scotland in 1937, he trained as a pharmacist before turning to acting at the age of 30 and joining the Swan Theatre in Worcester where he appeared in Arms and the Man, Present Laughter, The Seagull and Saved. His other television roles include parts in Cribb, Rumpole of the Bailey, Ladykillers and David Copperfield. On the stage he appeared in Hamlet in Sailsbury as well as in theatre in Sheffield, Manchester, Newbury, Derby, Exeter and Hornchurch.

He died on 21st October 2007.
