Alfie Vlok appeared in the spin-off DVD Coronation Street: Out of Africa to host a Sunshine Family competition to win $500,000 for the best family.Cilla Battersby's family reached the final three along with two other families, but Cilla had been lying about many things. However, one of the families got disqualified for pretending to be orphans. Cilla learned of this and used more devious tactics. When Alfie and the families went on a safari, Cilla's family almost got killed by lions but were saved. At the ceremony, Alfie announced that the Battersby's had won, but Chesney revealed that Cilla was lying about him being disabled. When the other family won, Cilla said that their dad was a heavy drinker. As a result, nobody won. As Cilla ran away, Alfie got her into his car and presented a TV Show where Cilla was crowned as "South Africa's Worst Mum".
