Alice Murray was a young woman drinking in a Manchester bar one evening in September 2011 when Tyrone Dobbs, Tommy Duckworth and Kirk Sutherland also entered the establishment described as "meat market central", in an attempt to bring Tyrone out of himself, having lost confidence with women and declaring his "pulling days" well and truly over.

Tommy noticed Alice and Kirsty Soames sat at the bar and approached the girls, filling them in on what a tough year his friend had been through, although Alice was more interested in whether Tommy was single. The girls initially got the wrong impression when Tommy offered them £20 to help him out and told Tommy to do one, but he stood his ground and explained how he just wanted them to talk to Tyrone for five minutes to give him a lift and make him feel good about himself once again. Alice refused to play any part in Tommy's plan, saying she'd got enough troubles of her own without listening to someone else's, but Kirsty took a keen interest and offered to go and talk to Tyrone, saying he'd got a nice face.
