Alison Rosemary Webster (née Wakefield) was Kevin Webster's second wife and mother of Jake.

As an adult, Alison bore the mental scars of a childhood tragedy. At nine, she was playing at Weatherfield Canal with her two-year-old sister Cheryl when Cheryl was accidentally drowned. Alison's parents later blamed her for her sister's death.

Alison joined Underworld as a machinist in 1998 and immediately fell for Kevin. They were married in 2000, and Jake was born that June, however he only lived for a day as Alison passed on a fatal Group B Strep infection during labour. Grief-stricken Alison abducted newborn Bethany Platt and, after being apprehended and returning Bethany, ran out in front of a lorry, killing herself.

Biography[]

Alison's life was changed forever when she was only nine years old. She and her two-year-old sister Cheryl had sneaked off from their parents' view, in their garden on Tile Street, to go walking by the canal. Cheryl fell into the water and drowned. Alison's parents Bob and Joan Wakefield subsequently blamed her for the tragedy, telling her she was jealous of the attention lavished on her sister.

By December 1998, Alison was working at the Underworld knicker factory on Coronation Street. At New Year, she had too much to drink and introduced herself to her crush Kevin Webster. The pair ended up kissing on the stroke of midnight.

A major step in Kevin and Alison's relationship was when she finally unburdened herself to Kevin about the events of Cheryl's death. Kevin was sympathetic and assured her she wasn't to blame. Kevin even arranged a meeting with Alison's parents to talk the situation out, but this didn't mend any fences. Alison eventually stood up to her parents and disowned them for good.

Events soon went badly wrong. Alison took Kevin's daughters Rosie and Sophie Webster to have a professional photo taken of them as a surprise for their dad. Upon finding them all missing, Kevin jumped to the wrong conclusion and called in the police. When Alison returned with the safe and sound girls, she was devastated about what Kevin had done. Kevin begged for her forgiveness but she insisted it was obvious he didn't trust her and left, seemingly for good.

In December 1999, Alison sent her friend and Kevin's ex-wife, Sally Webster, a postcard from her new home in Morecambe. Kevin made the trip to find Alison and persuade her to return with him. Alison initially wanted nothing to do with him, although shocked him by revealing she was pregnant. When Kevin proposed marriage, Alison finally forgave him. The two returned to the street and married the following month. Unbeknown to Alison, Kevin and Sally had slept together the night before.

The later stages of pregnancy were complicated, but Kevin and Alison were ecstatic that June when she gave birth to a boy, who they called Jake. But tragedy quickly struck; Alison had passed a Group B Streptococcus infection onto baby Jake during labour, which proved fatal. Shortly after being christened by the hospital chaplain, Jake died in the arms of his inconsolable parents.

Alison's grief and guilt proved too much when, in the small hours, she walked out of the hospital with newly-born Bethany Platt, sparking a regional police hunt. Kevin finally found her, but in the depth of her despair and convinced she would go to prison, she handed Bethany to Kevin and jumped in front of a lorry. She was killed instantly.
