Andrew Sachs (born "Andreas Siegfried Sachs" on 7th April 1930 in Berlin, Germany) is an actor and writer best known for playing Spanish waiter Manuel in the long-running sitcom Faulty Towers.

His mother a librarian and Jewish father an insurance broker, the family fled to England in 1938 to escape the Nazis and settled in north London. He has been in the acting profession since the late 1950s - initially working on radio productions - and made his screen debut in the TV series Dial 999 in 1959. On Coronation Street he played Ramsay Clegg - the half-brother of Norris Cole - between May and August 2009.

He is now heard more frequently as a narrator of documentaries and audio books.
