Angela Griffin was born in Leeds on 19th July 1976. Her bus conductor father Desmond split from his wife Sheila when Angela was four and she and her two brothers were brought up by their mother. She attended Leeds Comprehensive school but also joined the Leeds Children's Theatre and the South Leeds Youth theatre. A talent scout who visited her school got her a job for Yorkshire Television in the series Under the Bedclothes and she also appeared for the same company in Just Us.

In December 1992, she made her Coronation Street debut as hairdresser Fiona Middleton, a part she played until September 1998. She reprised the role for two episodes in August 2019 after a 21-year absence, in which Fiona's appearances were restricted to a video message and later video chat within the actual storyline, although Griffin did return to the studio to record her scenes.

In May 1993, she appeared in an episode of fellow ITV soap opera Emmerdale as Tina, a young homeless woman.

During Griffin's first stint on the Street, she won “Best Newcomer” at the 1995 National Television Awards and two years later was one of the stars in the spin-off video Viva Las Vegas!. Since moving on her career has continued to prosper with regular roles in popular series, including Jasmine Hopkins in Holby City, Darcey Henshall in Cutting It, Frankie Brewer in Down to Earth and, currently, Kim Campbell in Waterloo Road. She voiced multiple characters in the children's series Postman Pat from 2007 to 2013, and from 2009 to 2010 had her own chat show on Sky1 titled Angela and Friends. She can also be heard on BBC Radio 2, hosting the Unwinds programme as well as occasionally standing in for Steve Wright on Sunday Love Songs.

She married actor Jason Milligan in 2006, with whom she has two daughters.
