Arj was a university friend and short-term love interest of Amber Kalirai. The pair met while studying in London, however Amber dropped out and returned to Weatherfield. Arj went to visit her after graduating and whilst she was entertaining him in at 15a Coronation Street, Amber's father Dev Alahan knocked on the door to pester her, having been told by Sophie Webster that Amber was seeing a boyfriend. Amber acted as if she was alone but Dev was persistent, and less than happy when Arj came down the stairs.
Arj left some chewing gum on a chair which ended up sticking to Amber's hair and she threw him out of the flat. After having it removed by Sophie, Amber agreed to let Arj make it up to her by taking her out.
