Arthur Cox (born 7th April 1934 in Banbridge, Northern Ireland) appeared on Coronation Street in two roles: firstly between April and May 1984 as Mr Barker, minister of Mawdsley Street Chapel; and he returned to the programme in March 1994 as Mr Tonks, a governor of Weatherfield Comprehensive.

His other credits include roles in Hereward the Wake, George and the Dragon, Doctor Who, The Avengers, Dixon of Dock Green, A Family at War, Softly Softly: Task Force, ITV Playhouse, Yes Minister, Crown Court, Bergerac, Inspector Morse, Ruth Rendell Mysteries, She-Wolf of London, The Bill, Lovejoy, Casualty, Heartbeat, Jane Eyre and the films Fahrenheit 451, Sweeney 2, Give My Regards to Broad Street, Castaway, God's Outlaw, Personal Services, Aria, Hope and Glory, Little Dorrit, Shuttlecock, The Young Poisoner's Handbook, Tom's Midnight Garden, Girl from Rio and To Kill a King.

On stage he has appeared in productions including Pacific Paradise, It Was Gone When They Got There, Happy End, The Devil and the Good Lord, Macbeth, Henry IV - Parts I & II and Platonov.
