Avril Angers (18th April 1918 - 9th November 2005) was born in Liverpool. In her youth she was a Tiller Girl and she served with ENSA during World War II. She was a comedian and actress with appearances in films (notably The Family Way) and in television programmes in a career stretching over fifty years. She played Norah Dawson in Coronation Street in January 1961 and reappeared in the programme as Sylvia Crozier in April 1990.

Like Patricia Phoenix an image of her was used on the cover of a record by "The Smiths". She never married or had children and died of pneumonia. When The Stage reported her death they described her as a 'Comedy great'.
