Baker Street in Weatherfield was the site of a notorious workhouse that housed and fed the desitute of the town. One inmate was Aggie Grimshaw who, with her family, were the first tenants of 1 Coronation Street, moving into the house in 1902. Aggie married into a family of pit workers and her husband Percy and son Daniel both worked at Weatherfield Main Colliery.
In 1906 when Percy died from tuberculosis and Daniel was killed in a mine collapse. Aggie was thrown out as she couldn't pay the rent, and survived just a week at the workhouse.
