Barbara Clegg

Barbara Clegg is a Manchester-born actress-turned-writer who authored 7 episodes of Coronation Street in 1961 - her first work as a scriptwriter. On television she played the role of Nurse Jo Buckley in Emergency-Ward 10, and as a writer worked on radio series Waggoner's Walk and Mrs Dale's Diary. For television she contributed scripts for series such as Crossroads and Doctor Who, writing the serial 1983 Enlightenment featuring Keith Barron, Cyril Luckham and Lynda Baron.

Ms Clegg nearly became a schoolteacher instead of an actress. She graduated in English at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford but, unable to face another classroom, she took up her new profession instead.
