Belinda Johnson was Vicky Arden's best friend and neighbour in Handforth. When Vicky's parents were killed in a car crash in Whitby in 1991, the girls planned to have Vicky move into Belinda's house until the idea was quashed by Belinda's parents.
Like Vicky, Belinda came from a wealthy family. In the aftermath of Tim and Sandra Arden's deaths, Belinda looked after Vicky's horse Saracen at the stables, as Vicky had been sent to live with her grandfather Alec Gilroy and his wife Bet in Weatherfield. Belinda felt sorry for Vicky having to live above a backstreet pub and when Vicky came home for a visit, she amused her friend with horror stories about Coronation Street, such as being paired up with Tracy Barlow whose only experience of riding was the donkeys at Blackpool. From Vicky's description of Tracy, Belinda labelled the girl a yob.
Now that she was home, Vicky didn't want to go back to Weatherfield and Belinda, missing her friend, offered her the spare room over her family's garage, promising that her parents would go along with it. The girls got as far as arranging for Vicky to move in that week before Alec invited Belinda's parents to the Rovers to inform them what their daughter was scheming and ask if they'd be willing to apply for custody of Vicky. The Johnsons didn't want Vicky, but as they wouldn't let Belinda have her say, the girls assumed that Alec had put them off. The next day, Vicky went to Belinda's so that they could ask Belinda's mother together. They were refused by Mrs Johnson on the grounds that they hadn't the room - a statement which Belinda knew to be untrue, thus revealing to Vicky that she simply wasn't wanted.
Belinda and Vicky remained friends and when Vicky returned home with Steve McDonald on New Year's Eve, she told Bet that she was staying overnight with Belinda.
- Belinda's appearances in Episode 3267 (19th August 1991) and Episode 3268 (21st August 1991) were over the phone but her voice was clearly heard on both occasions. She was also uncredited for these two episodes.
