Sir Ben Kingsley CBE (born 31st December, 1943) is an Academy Award-winning actor, perhaps best known for his portrayal of Mohandas Gandhi in Richard Attenborough's 1982 film Gandhi, for which he won an Oscar for Best Actor. Ben got his start in major screen acting on Coronation Street, playing Ron Jenkins from 1966 to 1967. He also appeared in the spin-offs Pardon the Expression and Turn out the Lights. He was awarded the CBE in 2000 and a knighthood in 2001.
