Brian Hibbard (25th November 1946 - 17th June 2012) was born in Ebbw Vale, Gwent and first found fame as the founding member of the Flying Pickets, a group of actors who left John McGrath's 7:84 theatre group to woo audiences with their a cappella singing. The group had a number one hit in 1983 with their first single - a cover version of Yazoo's "Only You", which topped the charts for five weeks and won the coverted Christmas number one slot that year.

After leaving the group in 1986, Hibbard went on to have an extensive acting career, which included appearances in Doctor Who, Making Out, Birds of a Feather, Minder, Blue Heaven, Satellite City, Mortimer's Law, Dalziel and Pascoe, Barbara, Holby City, Emmerdale, Help! I'm a Teenage Outlaw, Heartbeat, The Bill, Casualty, Doctors, EastEnders and Made in Wales.

In Coronation Street he played businessman-turned-mechanic Doug Murray between 1992 and 1993.

His death in June 2012, at the age of 65, was attributed to prostate cancer.
