Carol Nicholas is credited as the writer of Episode 108 (25th December 1961) of Coronation Street. In reality, it is a pseudonym of Tony Warren and Derek Granger. This situation came about as Tony wrote the first draft of the script but he and Derek Granger disagreed over elements of it. Therefore, Tony allowed Derek to rewrite it but asked that his name should not appear on the credits. The 'Carol Nicholas' moniker was then invented and was perhaps a play on words to suit the Christmas theme of the episode.
