Actor and voice-over artist Charles Foster appeared on Coronation Street playing two minor credited roles: as a Radio Announcer in June 1975 and returned to the programme as a Gateman at the racecourse where several Street residents visited in August 1999 - refusing Fred Elliott and Les Battersby entrance to the Members' Enclosure.
Wirral-born in 1936, Foster is best known in the North West as a continuity announcer for Granada Television, joining the company in the mid-1970s before retiring in the early 1990s. In that time, his voice graced many gameshows including Busman's Holiday, Catchphrase and The Krypton Factor. He also did many close-down announcements for the station in the era before twenty-four hour television and one of his announcements is heard, uncredited, in Episode 1583 (17th March 1976) as Hilda Ogden watched Granada while waiting for Stan to come home.
Other acting credits include roles in Crown Court, The Fighting Men, Blood & Guts, The Courtroom, Comedy Lab, Emmerdale and My Way.
He is married to actress Meg Johnson.
