Charlie was a long-time postman for the residents of Coronation Street and his days at Weatherfield sorting office went back to when Alf Roberts had worked there. Charlie was acquainted with Alf's wife Phyllis.
In February 1972 he delivered some letters to Maggie Clegg when Alf was in the Corner Shop and the three laughed about a postman who the two men knew named Dai Jenkins who had three sons, two daughters and whose wife had told Maggie she had another on the way. Alf told Charlie to pass on his congratulations to his colleague.
