Chris Darwin appeared on Coronation Street as Billy Nelson. A former acquaintance of Eddie Yeats from Walton Jail, he came to Weatherfield after escaping from police custody in September 1982.

A member of The Scotland Road Writers' Workshop in his native Liverpool from 1974 until its closure in 1999, the group held weekly meetings, produced publications and staged plays and public readings. He became involved once more when the workshop re-opened in 2004.

His other credits include roles in Z Cars, Boys from the Blackstuff, Brookside, The Bill, Springhill, Emmerdale, Heartbeat, Moving On, Cilla and the films Little Dorrit; Distant Voices, Still Lives; Dancin' Thru the Dark; The Fool and Dark Summer, while on stage he has appeared in productions of Rhyme Without Reason, And the Beat Goes On..., Night Collar and Love Life and Adrian Henri.
