Dave was a lad who knew Maddie Heath at the hostel she stayed at and with his thuggsih friend Ian "invited" themselves into her room with a bag full of cans. Sophie Webster had stayed the night with Maddie and wasn't pleased at their intrusion, nor was she as complacent as Maddie in letting the lads remain, despite Ian's air of menace and Maddie's hissed warnings to leave things alone. Two more lads joined them and got tanked up. Maddie admitted to Sophie that hung around with them as they had a hard reputation and therefore no one messed with her. Ian demanded that Maddie sit with her and again Sophie tried to stand their ground. Ian attacked her and Maddie ended up having to give him £20 - the last money she had - to get him to leave but he promised to be back the next day wanting more. Dave, somewhat the worse for wear by this time with the alcohol, managed to get the words out that there was "summat goin' on at Als'" and the four lads departed.
