Della Dee and her younger sister Gloria were two exotic singers and dancers from Warrington who, under the name of the "Dee Sisters", auditioned for Dennis Tanner one day at the office of Lenny Phillips's theatrical agency at 17b Edward Street.

When they arrived in their rainmacs and dark glasses, they explained that Gloria and Della were their stage names and they apologised for their early arrival, saying they had wanted to escape a couple of teddy boys who had been getting fresh with them. Jerry Booth was visiting Dennis that day, and when he saw their photograph he was more than eager to stay and watch the girls' act. He was introduced by Dennis as "Gerald" from the agency's Liverpool office and witnessed the girls stripping down to their scanty costumes and getting a tape recorder out so they could mime to their own performance of the recent number one hit How Do You Do It?? The tape began with Della screeching out "Mam! Shut 'im up - we're recordin'!" over the sound of a crying baby before the number proper began. The girls sang and danced round the office, draping themselves at intervals over a delighted Dennis and a startled Jerry until they were interrupted by the sudden arrival of an amused Elsie Tanner and a far-from-happy Sheila Birtles, Jerry's girlfriend.

Thoroughly pleased with the audition, Dennis took the sisters on and booked them a place for a talent show at the Pelican Club, desperately trying to interest anyone he could in buying tickets for their debut. He even suggested to Frank Barlow that he book them for the opening ceremony of his new DIY shop on Victoria Street but naturally he wasn't interested. Even Jerry refused to go to the talent show, scared of incurring Sheila's wrath. The girls had their hair done expensively in a tone which Gloria named as "pink chinchilla" while Della complained that she had been up to 2.00am sowing pink sequins on their costumes. Unable to get a single person interested in the club appearance, Dennis hid from the girls on the night in the Rovers but they tracked him down, happy to report that they had won first prize and simpering at him as they thanked him for all the efforts he had put in on their behalf.
