Derek Benfield (born 11th March 1926 in Bradford, died 10th March 2009 in Esher, Surrey) appeared on Coronation Street in three roles:
- Flying Horse customer Jim Baker in January 1963.
- Joe, a credit salesman who called at 11 Coronation Street looking for payment from Elsie Tanner in October 1963.
- Walter Greenhalgh, the husband of Dot - appearing between May and September 1967.
Best known for his roles as Bill Riley in The Brothers, shop manager Mr Scrimshaw in First of the Summer Wine and Robert Wainthropp in Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, other television credits include roles in Return to the Lost Planet, The Larkins, Three Live Wires, Z Cars, R3, Dixon of Dock Green, Softly Softly, Timeslip, The Flaxton Boys, Rumpole of the Bailey, Crown Court and Casualty.
In addition to being an actor, he was also a playwright of over thirty plays, mostly comedies and farces.
