Diggory Compton was the local baker, who opened Comptons in Victoria Street in 2005. The shop was open for a year, employing Sarah Platt and Liz McDonald, before a rent increase resulted in him moving to the more affordable Chorlton.
Diggory's daughter, Molly Compton, remained in Weatherfield and in 2010 she gave birth to Jack, Diggory's grandson. His sister Pam Hobsworth also frequented the area for a time.
Biography
In May 2005 Diggory bought up the old hardware shop on Victoria Street in order to turn it into a bakery. This concerned local businessmen Fred Elliott and Roy Cropper due to the competition. Diggory opened the shop later that month, and was later joined by his daughter Molly.
Diggory tried wooing Liz McDonald by inviting her to a Christmas dinner party in 2005, however she ended up meeting her future drummer husband Vernon Tomlin at the event.
In 2006 Diggory was struggling to drum up business at the bakery and was losing money. Molly and her partner Tyrone Dobbs attempted to help Diggory by doing late night pizza deliveries, however this wasn't enough to save the business and it was closed in July that year. He put his house on the market in the following month and relocated to Chorlton as his new business premises also came with living accomodation above. Molly decided to remain behind in Weatherfield to be with Tyrone and moved in with him and his surrogate parents Jack and Vera Duckworth, and Diggory moved to Chorlton alone.
Diggory never returned to Weatherfield, he kept in contact with Molly. She visited him in 2008 after she fell out with her fiancé Tyrone, although she later returned home. Diggory was unable to make it to their wedding in January 2009 after ending up in hospital with a burst appendix. By 2010 Diggory was living in a house in the country and Molly and Tyrone made plans to visit him, although they were caught in a car accident. Diggory went a hospitalised Molly, although had left before his sister Pam arrived to see her.
After Molly died following a tram crash in December 2010, Diggory was devastated by what happened. He didn't attend the funeral as he was too grief stricken over his daughter's death.
