The Doctor carried out Derek Wilton's pension medical when he was invited to join an executive pension scheme at Barkers stationery firm in 1989. Derek didn't find out the results straight away but he was optimistic due to the doctor remarking that he would last a while yet. The results were sent to Barkers' senior executives, one of whom, Ray Griffiths, broke to Derek the news that he had an increased heart rate and was prone to hypertension. Effectively immediately, Derek was moved from sales to dispatch, an effective demotion. Sounding off to Mavis, Derek vowed not to take the insult lying down, referring to the doctor as a "jumped up twerp in a clinic".
