Doris Hare MBE (born 1st March 1905 in Bargoed, Wales; died 30th May 2000 in Hillingdon, London) played three roles in Coronation Street:

Best known for appearing between 1967 and 1973 in sixty-seven episodes of ITV sitcom On the Buses as matriarch Mabel Butler, her other television credits included Colonel March of Scotland Yard, A House Called Bell Tower, The Avengers, No Hiding Place, Dixon of Dock Green, The Saint, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), Nanny, The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾, Never the Twain, Comrade Dad and The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole.

Film roles included Night Mail, Opening Night, Discoveries, Thrice Upon a Time, Double Exposure, Tiger by the Tail, No Smoking, Hugh and I, the On the Buses spin-off trilogy and three of the four films in the Confessions series.

On stage, she appeared in productions of Words and Music, Night Must Fall, Lights Up!, The Water Gipsies, Valmouth, Box and Cox, The Fire Raisers, The Physicists, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Beggar's Opera, Trelawny of the Wells, Black Comedy, Heartbreak House and It Runs in the Family.

Doris played the role of Minnie Caldwell in the unbroadcast dry runs of Coronation Street in 1960, and turned down the opportunity to play Ena Sharples.

She was the special guest on the edition of This Is Your Life, transmitted on 29th December 1971.
