Elizabeth Mansfield appeared on Coronation Street in August & September 1999 and June 2000 as Joan Wakefield, the mother of Alison Wakefield (later Webster).

After briefly attending Elmhurst Ballet School, she went on to train at the Guildhall School of Music and played at rep theatres up and down the country. In the late 1970s she became involved in the Red Ladder Theatre when the company moved to Leeds. She joined them initially for one production but stayed for five years. In the early 1980s when her daughter was still an infant, she trained in opera for three years at the City of Leeds College of Music.

As well as appearing on television and on stage, she was with the BBC Radio Drama company for eighteen months and has since founded her own company, Ensemble.

Other credits include roles in The Bill, Casualty, Heartbeat, Emmerdale and the films The Slipper and the Rose: The Story of Cinderella (1976) and Lost Along the Way (2008). On stage she has appeared in numerous productions including The Mother, The Threepenny Opera, A Better Day, Hymn to Love; The Happy Haven, Hay Fever, The Merchant of Venice, The Cherry Orchard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Guys and Dolls, Cabaret, My Fair Lady and the original production of Godspell.
