Plot[]

Jim recruits the twins to help him set up a workshop in No.11's back yard. Bet gets Ivy to tell her about the medium's message about "Martin" but doesn't say why she's interested. Mike plans to get rid of Ralph Dobson. Alec wonders why Bet has become catatonic. Mike takes Jackie Ingram to "Thorngrove" in Oakfield, the house that she was buying with Peter. She plans to buy it with the sale of the factory and live off the interest. Bet tells Alec about her son, Martin Downes, who she had at sixteen after a fling with 28-year-old Joe Mason. She tells him how her mother forced her to give him up for adoption and that he died in a car crash in 1975. He comforts her. Phyllis enjoys the art classes. Alec tells Don about the pain Ivy has caused Bet. Liz worries that the twins will grow up thinking bikes are normal. Jim tells her they are. Ivy feels vindicated by Bet's story. Deirdre tells Ken that she's still divorcing him - either now or in two years' time. Ken is devastated, having taken her earlier ultimatum as an offer to drop the divorce. Bet refuses to go to a meeting with Ivy; she doesn't want to get in contact with Martin. Ivy judges Bet for ignoring Martin's message after he gave her the courage to tell Alec about him. Mike hints to Jackie that his and Alma's relationship isn't a permanent one.
