After a comfortable night, Mavis is glad she went home. Alma worries about Mike being with Jackie in Harrogate. Audrey tells her she's being daft as Jackie has just buried her husband. Percy now suspects one of Maurice Jones's workmen of the break-in when he sees Mal Harris's van parked in the street. Emily orders him not to investigate and confines him to barracks. Ken thinks Phil is only interested in Deirdre because she's a councillor and asks Tracy to spy on them for him. Percy disobeys Emily and inspects Mal's van. He catches him burgling No.6 and phones the police after taking the van keys. Derek arrives and is told by Percy to keep away for his own safety. Thinking his own house has been burgled, Derek tackles Mal and ends up on the ground as Mal runs off. Mike phones Alma and tells her that Jackie has left Harrogate. The police later catch Mal and the Barnes' goods are saved. Percy is proclaimed a hero. Des tells everyone that Mal cut the keys when the houses were being built. Ivy tells Alma that Jackie is still in Harrogate. She phones the hotel and this is confirmed.
