Elsie and Ena plot together. Councillor Sid Platt resigns from the council. Ena sets Harry Bishop onto Elsie's trail. Elsie dresses up dowdy to give the impression of wholesomeness. Bishop tells her that he's a private investigator and has been employed by George Dickinson to find out about Jerry's love life with Sheila. Elsie promises to find out what she can for £2.
