Plot[]
Part One: Linda can't understand why Ivan can't get a local job. He is adamant about going to Birmingham and says he'll go with or without her. Linda tells Elsie that she had an affair with a man in Canada and Ivan brought them back to England so she couldn't see him anymore. She says Ivan would have separated her from Paul if she hadn't come. Elsie despairs as Linda seems more concerned about getting her way with Ivan than Paul's needs. Albert finds out that the council wants to build on his allotment. Val makes a call at No.9 just as Elsie's phone goes next door. Len answers for her but it goes dead when he speaks. Elsie makes out it's a technical problem. Len realises that she's worried about something other than the Cheveskis and tells Linda.
Part Two: Linda riles Ivan up by asking him if he fancies Sheila. They row about Ivan never taking her out in Canada. Elsie's furious with Dennis after seeing the size of her phone bill. She's shocked when Ken tells her that his was enormous as Val is never off the thing. The Cheveskis admit to Elsie that they've only stayed together for Paul's sake. She tells them it's obvious that Paul will never have a happy life with them rowing all the time and threatens to see a solicitor to get custody. Len refuses to intervene with Albert's allotment. Ivan goes to Birmingham to sort out a home for them all. A shamed Linda sees him off after Elsie's threat. Elsie picks Paul up from school and finds out that he isn't settling. Linda probes Sheila to find out what's troubling Elsie. Sheila tells her about the Robert Maxwell incident. Linda receives one of the phone calls and realises why Elsie has been acting strangely.
