Plot[]

Part One: Minnie looks for Jerry on the pretext of wanting to humanely be rid of a sparrow's nest at No.5. She's pleased when Len tells her that Jerry spends all his time at the library. Stan is delighted at the prospect of being a granddad. Hilda fusses round Irma, coming up with a list of things that her daughter will need for the baby. Irma defends her mother when David pokes fun at her behind her back. Mrs Cook takes over the household duties at No.11, pleasing Dennis. Sally Frost helps Emily at the library before a smitten Jerry comes in. Sally agrees to go to the pictures with him that night to see a James Bond film. Jack advises a depressed Len to look for a change in his life. Albert advises Minnie to do further investigating at the library to see if their plan is coming together. Annie bores Irma with talk of her own experiences of childbirth. She doesn't appear very happy about the baby when David tries to talk to her about it.

Part Two: Hilda makes her first-ever trip to the library to pick up a pile of baby books. Minnie also calls in and is pleased to find out about the trip to the pictures from Sally. Dennis finds that Mrs Cook has drawn up a bathroom rota. He lets the Cook boys have Elsie's larger bed because of the stiffness in their muscles caused by their somersaulting act. Irma starts to read through Hilda's books. She admits to Val that she has fears about bringing up a baby and how it's going to change her life. Stan turns down Len's suggestion of going to a pub in Manchester for a change. Jerry realises his partner is depressed. Annie tells Emily that Concepta is slowly coming to terms with Harry's death. Dennis turns down Emily's offer to return to Gamma Garments during Lucille's absence. Jerry shows Sally his holiday pictures from Scotland after the pictures when Peter, Sally's boyfriend turns up and asks Jerry for a fight.
