Part One: Pondering with Minnie about the question of who left the flowers on Alfred's grave, Ena rules out a family member as all of his are dead. Remembering that he always imagined men looking at her, she wonders if he might have had another woman and had a guilty conscience. Frank Starkie has to join in with the party in Emily's bedsit and he arrives before it starts. Emily envies Frank's quiet life in the country. Dennis turns up dressed as a hippy. Albert considers Alfred's friends but they've all passed on. The Tanners pay a visit to the street. Elsie is keen to join Emily's party but Steve insists on meeting Joe Donelli instead. Ena snipes at Elsie for living in Altrincham. Irma and Val are fascinated by Frank and his rural roughness. David is put out. Minnie tells Albert that Ena isn't confronting the fact that Alfred was unfaithful. As he leaves, Frank tells Emily that he enjoyed the party but is afraid of her thinking he's a drinker. She is equally anxious that Frank will consider her too forward, but they clear the air and arrange to meet up again tomorrow. Emily is thrilled when he kisses her on the cheek.

Part Two: Dennis is still bored on his own at No.11 and can't cope with the cooking. Val finds herself looking after him. She forces Ken to muck in. Emily asks Val to do her hair to go out with Frank. Elsie tells Jack she's enjoying living in Altrincham but he isn't certain that she's being truthful with herself. Steve tells Gary Strauss that he's annoyed with Elsie that she wants to spend so much time back in the street. Frank takes Emily out to the Rovers as he doesn't get out to a pub much at his isolated home. Dennis tells Elsie he's coping fine without her. Emily looks forward to visiting Frank's dairy farm. Ena returns from the cemetery and found more flowers, this time with a florist's card. She's determined to investigate tomorrow.
