Plot[]
Part One: Emily receives a letter from the second man recommended by the Maple Marriage Bureau. Lucille despairs as her working colleague spends all her time pondering what he's like. Ena tells Minnie that she believes the sender to be Jack Brown, Ian Sharples's godfather, and she's sent for him. Elsie cries off from showing Emmeline Tanner around Lancaster Castle. Steve tries to get to the bottom of her moodiness. Elsie admits that Emmeline makes her feel uncomfortable when she talks about another woman he knows back in Boston. Steve asks his wife to start trusting him. Hilda gives Annie one of her headaches with her constant chatter about decorating No.13. Val catches Ken's cold. Ena entertains Jack in the vestry and reminds him that only he and Eli Parker called Ian 'half-pint', and Eli passed away last summer. Jack denies being the sender of the money or flowers and tells her that Henry Foster also used the nickname, adding meaningfully that if anyone should be sending her money, Henry should. Emmeline checks on a 'sick' Elsie and finds her preparing to go to the cinema with May Trickett.
Part Two: Hilda and Stan return from buying wallpaper. Due to his bad track record, Hilda decides to get a decorator in. Elsie admits she lied about being sick as she knows Emmeline doesn't approve of her. She tells Emmeline she's married to Steve whether she likes it or not. Albert puts Stan in touch with a decorator who charges the cheap rate of £2.10 a room. Jerry does some detective work and finds Henry Foster's address in St Annes for Ena. Val tells Ken he's in charge of running the house if she doesn't get better but he's already agreed to go back to work. Emily's man, Douglas Preston, rings her up at Gamma. Emmeline tells Steve that Elsie has an inferiority complex and is a disappointment to her as she comes from a different social scale. Elsie walks in on the conversation and tells Steve that perhaps she should leave him. Ena arrives at St Annes to call on Henry.

Notes[]
- Ena Sharples praises Jerry Booth's detective skills, saying he could put Lockhart out of a job. This was a reference to the three police series Murder Bag, Crime Sheet and No Hiding Place, the latter of which which had just finished an eight-year run on ITV. Starring Raymond Francis as Detective Chief Superintendent Tom Lockhart, Johnny Briggs was the co-star between 1962 and 1966.
- The scene of Ena Sharples walking up Erskine Street in St Annes and arriving at Henry Foster's address was filmed on location. The end credits play over a shot of Mr. Foster's driveway.
- TV Times: No synopsis appeared in the magazine between Episode 702 (6th September 1967) and Episode 755 (11th March 1968)
