Plot[]
Part One: Stan gives Hilda tips for his window cleaning round as they prepare to swap jobs for the day. He refuses to wear a pinny for his work at the Rovers. Hilda tries to avoid answering him as to whether Annie is expecting him. The corner shop also sees an increase in trade as a result of ghoulish people interested in Steve's death. Only the yard's business is suffering. Hilda breaks the news to an unimpressed Annie that Stan will be doing her work today. Ray tells Len that Ronald Wilde has phoned, annoyed that he is neglecting their contract. A tired and distracted Len tells him that the police have found his fingerprints are all over Steve's flat. He admits he went to hit Steve but hit the wall instead and left him. He refuses to take on a job for Dave. Annie is outraged when Stan suggests a beer break rather than one for tea. Ena criticises Hilda's window cleaning. The police collect Len to take him for an identity parade, annoying him as it keeps him from his work. He loses his temper with them, causing Det. Inspector Castle to comment that he seems to be a violent man.
Part Two: Journalists Marion Ward and John Meakin frequent the Rovers during lunchtime and interview the residents. Ena blags milk stouts from Ms Ward for what she knows. Jack pushes Annie into letting Stan go for the day. Dot worries that a photo of her and Gregg together in the paper will reach Walter in Stornoway. Dave admits to Elsie that he didn't think Len did it. Dot asks Gregg why a woman has been ringing for him. Castle calls at No.11 and in front of an angry Dot tells Gregg that his alibi with Sally Wells checks out. Len is let go after the parade. He and Elsie chat in the pub to Dave's clerk Ted Morris who tells them that Steve owed Dave more than £1,000 and the debt made the bookie very angry.
