Fay was an elderly lady pushed forward by two Rugby Players to play the piano at the Gatsby Club after an appeal by Ralph Lancaster. Ernest Bishop was supposed to fulfil the role, accompanying Rita Fairclough at a charity night but the bar flap at the Rovers had been accidentally dropped on his hand by a darts player. The problem was Fay couldn't read the music to Rita's repertoire and could only play "sing-alongs" like She'll be coming round the mountain... which satisfied the audience but not the billed singer...
