John Allan (born 21st March 1930 in Halifax, died 11th January 2013 in Pickering, North Yorkshire) appeared on Coronation Street in four roles:
- A Rovers' customer, dissatisfied by the slow service in April 1974 (Credited as "Johnnie Allan")
- Barney Moss, appearing intermittently between March 1976 and August 1977
- Binman Barney Holt in December 1980
- Builder Stan Taylor, hired by Alma Sedgewick in April 1989
He also appeared in Declan is Very Big, an episode of the Coronation Street spin-off The Brothers McGregor, transmitted in August 1988.
Growing up in a small rural community, Johnny was already familiar with agricultural work and transitioned into that profession upon leaving school. Around the same time, he took an interest in wrestling and learned the sport in his spare time, turning professional in 1950 and often appeared in televised matches up until the late 1960s. Upon retirement, he became a well-respected promoter and began to carve out an acting career.
His other television credits included roles in Crown Court, The Wild West Show, Premiere, Last of the Summer Wine, Emmerdale Farm, I Didn't Know You Cared, All Creatures Great and Small, In Loving Memory, Muck and Brass, The Practice, The Winning Streak, Heartbeat and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates.
