Derek Newark (born 8th June 1933 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk; died 11th August 1998 in London) appeared on Coronation Street as Detective Constable Bill Sharp, making intermittent appearances between July 1966 and September 1971.

He joined the British Army - firstly serving in the Coldstream Guards and then the Royal Artillery, but quit to pursue an acting career and studied at RADA, graduating in 1960.

His other television credits include The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Doctor Who, No Hiding Place, The Avengers, Front Page Story, Serjeant Musgrave's Dance, The Baron, Man in a Suitcase, The Saint, Z Cars, Budgie, The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club, Crown Court, Rising Damp, Barlow, The Nineteenth Hole and The Bill.

Film roles include The Black Torment, The Blue Max, Where Eagles Dare, Dad's Army and Bellman and True.

On stage, he appeared in productions of The Tinker, Altona, Black Coffee, End of Conflict, The Seagull, Darling Mr London, Il Campiello, Bedroom Farce, The Iceman Cometh, The Crucible, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Last Decathlon, The Mysteries and Glengarry Glen Ross.
