Charles "Chick" Purvey (born 1926 in Dundee, died 17th November 1996, also in Dundee) appeared on Coronation Street in October 1964 as one of the wrestlers competing in an undercard match at the Viaduct Sporting Club, prior to Stan Ogden (aka Ogden the Terrible) stepping into the ring to face Ian Campbell.
Already a keen amateur with fairground booth experience, he turned professional as a middleweight in 1948. Regularly seen in televised matches, he made several appearances on World of Sport, where he was usually billed under the better-known spelling of "Chic Purvey".
