Part One: Hilda still wants to know where Stan was on the night of Steve's death and he tells her he was in The Flying Horse. Elsie is in a better mood until Val confesses to her that she couldn't give her a false alibi. She's further perturbed to hear that Len was taken to the station last night. She sees him on the street but he ignores her when she calls out to him. Finding Castle at The Pink Posy, Elsie apologises to him for roping Val in. He tells her that Steve left everything to her in his will. She insists she didn't know. Stan admits to Len that he was in the Horse with his woman friend from 19 Inkerman Street and is worried that he's in it up to his neck. Len isn't sympathetic. Guilt-ridden, Stan gives Hilda the gift of a used electric kettle and is disturbed when she reads out a letter she's written to Irma saying he has no firm alibi. Len tells Elsie that the police traced his taxi to Claydon Court. They took his fingerprints and questioned him about their friendship. Len admits to Elsie that he could have killed Steve - for her.

Part Two: Dot is interviewed by journalist Marion Ward. Ena wonders where Minnie goes to at 1.30pm each day. Gregg tells Dot that Gary and Joe flew off to Hamburg that morning. Jack doesn't like a new oversized cardigan that Annie has knitted for him and tries to give it away. Castle investigates with Jack and Val if Elsie has ever shown signs of being short of money. Ray is questioned by Parry and Warburton about Len's movements but knows nothing. Gregg tells Castle he was with a Sally Wells in Altrincham when Steve died. Trying to get the upper hand, Stan tells Hilda he knew all about her and George Greenwood before admitting to 19 Inkerman Street. She goes ballistic and insists they swap jobs tomorrow to keep him from temptation. Cross confers with Parry who feels that Len is their man. They ask him to go to the station with them again.
