Plot[]
A cheerful Martin helps Gail drop off Sarah Louise and David at No.13 before he sets off for his first day back at Weatherfield General. Sally is aggrieved that the position of childminder isn't secure now that she's given up her corner shop job. Kevin can't believe Jack Halliwell's cheek and intends to tell Mike. Gail argues again with Alma over her plan to sell-up and move on. Vera and Ivy try to remember exactly when the Claytons left the area. Ivy counsels her to not get her hopes up. Steve has an appointment to see his solicitor about his court case and Jim is annoyed that he hasn't dressed up smartly for it. Kevin tells Mike about Halliwell's backhander. Mike tells him that he wants him to deal with it as he says he runs the garage but advises him that the best way to keep the contract is to put £20 on every service carried out for Halliwell's firm to pay the £1,000. Kevin doesn't like the deal as it's dishonest but Sally's too distracted with the children to listen to his woes. Steve's solicitor reckons he will get away with a fine. Jim is worried that his son isn't relieved at the news. Victor is surprised at how good Derek's company report is. He agrees that the company needs streamlining and redundancies are necessary. Derek is alarmed when Victor tells him that he can see from the report the company needs only one manager and that he has therefore made himself redundant. Martin has enjoyed his day. Gail tells him that Alma is seeing an estate agent tomorrow. Curly agrees with Raquel that they can still be friends. Jack finds out from Curly that there is a block on overtime at Bettabuy and he wonders where Vera was last week. Mavis is shocked when Derek arrives home unemployed and disillusioned. Sally urges Kevin to stand by his conscience but he realises that he's going to have to go along with Mike. Mike is shocked when Deirdre asks him if he enjoys wrecking lives. He assures her he loves Alma. Kevin tells Mike he's going along with the scheme but he's in too bad a mood to be happy at the news.
