Following the fire that broke out in Roy's Rolls, Hayley Cropper pointed the finger of suspicion at employee, friend and lodger Becky Granger for deliberately setting the fire as the Croppers had turned their backs on her after she and Slug had taken their car without consent.
Becky was arrested and quickly released, much to Hayley's disbelief, but the police had yet to establish that arson was the cause of the fire. However, upon completion of the investigation, the Fire Officer informed Hayley that the fire arose due to an electrical fault with their deep fat fryer.
