Robert Austin appeared on Coronation Street in four roles:
- PC Blakey, who breathalysed Stan Ogden when he was caught driving 75mph on a 50mph country road in May 1974
- Environmental Health Inspector Gordon Venables, who carried out a final inspection of McCarthy's restaurant prior to opening in September 2004
- The Registrar who officiated at the marriage ceremonies of Steve McDonald and Becky Granger in March 2009, and Joe McIntyre and Gail Platt in January 2010
- Pensioner caravanner Graham Hancox in April 2019.
His other television credits include roles in Crown Court, The Further Adventures of Oliver Twist, The Swish of the Curtain, Agony (alongside Maureen Lipman), Juliet Bravo, Murphy's Mob, Super Gran, Boon, Chelmsford 123, The Ruth Rendell Mysteries, Casualty, Just William, Doctors and Holby City.
On stage, he appeared in productions of Travelling Hopefully, Plaza Suite, Joking Apart, The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, The School for Wives, The Chalk Garden, Crazy for You, By Jeeves, The Man who Came to Dinner, Damsels in Distress, The Rivals, The Seagull, Time of My Life, I Have Been Here Before and Moonlanding.
