John Woodnutt (born 3rd March 1924 in Kensington, London; died 2nd January 2006 in Northwood, Middlesex) appeared on Coronation Street in April 1969 as a police inspector who had dealings with Ena Sharples when she led a protest against the closure of an OAP Clubhouse.

He made his debut at the Oxford Playhouse at the age of eighteen, later working in Shakespearean roles at the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre. He made his television debut in the live play One in 1956 and appeared in numerous roles over the years, his looks and voice lending him to villainous or authoritarian parts. His roles include The Black Brigand, Sara Crewe, Queen's Champion, The Cabin in the Clearing, Billy Bunter of Greyfriars School, No Hiding Place, Gamble for a Throne, Z Cars, Swizzlewick, Alexander Graham Bell, The Master, Rogues' Gallery, Doctor Who, Crown Court, The Tomorrow People, The Case of Eliza Armstrong, The Secret Garden, Emmerdale Farm, Children of the Stones, The Doombolt Chase, The Boy from Space, Stalky & Co., Porterhouse Blue, Knightmare, Jeeves and Wooster and Harry's Mad.

On stage, he appeared in productions of Rebecca, A Party for Christmas, Jane Eyre, Off the Record, The Chiltern Hundreds, Jupiter Laughs, The Recruiting Officer, Afore Night Come, Habeas Corpus, Serjeant Musgrave's Dance, Uncle Vanya, The Government Inspector and Master Forger.
