Alan Hockey (born 8th October 1924 in South Shields, died 7th June 1992, also in South Shields) played two parts on Coronation Street: bailiff's van driver Ned in April 1963; and he returned to the programme between November and December 1979 as Ivy Tilsley's father, Jim Nelson.
His other credits include Z Cars, A Man Called Harry Brent, The Troubleshooters, The Onedin Line, When the Boat Comes In, Emmerdale Farm, All Creatures Great and Small, The Gaffer and Spender.
Film roles include Get Carter, Malachi's Cove and Paper Marriage.
On stage, he appeared in productions of The Lilac Domino, Chu Chin Chow, Salad Days, Two Stars for Comfort, Murder Turns the Key, And Was Jerusalem Builded Here?, The Caucasian Chalk Circle and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
