Peter Schofield (born 29th July 1928 in Chorley, died 29th July 2003 in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire) played two different characters on Coronation Street: firstly in October 1969 as a pub landlord in the Lake District (appearing alongside his real-life wife, Jean Lockhart); and he returned to the programme between July and September 1978 as cafe owner Joe Dawson.

His other credits include roles in Z Cars, Castle Haven, Tom Grattan's War, The Silver Sword, Queenie's Castle, The Georgian House, All Creatures Great and Small, The Sun Trap, Juliet Bravo, Airline, Mr. Right, Nanny, The Gathering Seed, Emmerdale Farm and The Life and Crimes of William Palmer.

On stage, he appeared in productions of Apple Pie Order, The Poltergeist, The Enchanted Cottage, Sailor's Farewell, Double Door, As Black As She's Painted, Love on Ice, Peril at End House, Spring and Port Wine, Uproar in the House, Grup, A Slight Ache, Equus, Grand Manoeuvres, Semi-Detached, See How They Run, The Pajama Game, The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4, The Rivals, Me and My Girl and My Cousin Rachel.
