John Barrie (born 6th May 1917 in New Brighton, died 24th March 1980 in York) appeared on Coronation Street in two roles: firstly in September 1961 as theatrical agent Lenny Phillips; and he returned to the programme between October and November 1972 as businessman Jimmy Frazer.

He made his acting debut with an uncredited role in the 1954 film Yankee Pasha, and is probably best known for his roles as Bill Wright in The Wright People, the title character in Sergeant Cork, DCI Hudson in Z Cars and Dr. John Somers in The Doctors.

Further television credits include roles in The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Artful Dodger, Emergency-Ward 10, Family Solicitor, The Saint, The Plane Makers, Dixon of Dock Green, Man in a Suitcase, Nearest and Dearest and Follyfoot.

Other film roles include Victim, Life for Ruth, The Wild and the Willing, Lancelot and Guinevere, The Oblong Box, The File of the Golden Goose, Patton and Song of Norway.

On stage, he appeared in a 1962 production of All Things Bright and Beautiful at the Phoenix Theatre, London.
